Lefkes — A Greek restaurant with a modern twist

Lefkes, a modern Greek restaurant, has recently opened at 495 Sylvan Avenue in Englewood Cliffs. It is part of the successful New York based Kellari Hospitality Group, operators of top restaurants in the US and abroad.

Lefkes’ executive Chef Anastatios “Tasos” Ntoumas has created many of the restaurant’s signature dishes. Tasos also operates Lefkes Santorini and Lefkes Athens, and he was named Chef of the Year in 2018 and 2017 by the prestigious website, estiatoria.gr. He is also the ambassador for Greek Taste Beyond Borders.

The restaurant features an elegant, airy dining room, upstairs lounge, outdoor patio and private rooms. It is the perfect place for a romantic dinner, a night out with friends, family celebrations and business gatherings.

As you enter the restaurant and pass the bar area, you’ll notice a market stall filled with colorful vegetables and fresh seafood including huge tiger shrimp, langoustine, oysters, pink and red snappers, John Dory, Dover sole and Lavaraki, the Greek version of Branzino.

During our recent visit we enjoyed the following dishes:

Octopodi — A generous portion of octopus chunks, charcoal grilled to perfection and served on a bed of fava puree with kale and a tangy vinaigrette dressing.

Moussaka Kroketes — The traditional Greek casserole of ground meat and eggplants, reconstructed and reshaped in three crunchy balls and served with a feta cheese mousse that adds a salty, soft texture to the crispy Kroketes.

Whole Lavraki — A Mediterranean sea bass served with spanakorizo, a delicious, lemony mix of cooked spinach and rice. Our fish for two was grilled to perfection, filleted and deboned at the table. It was the freshest and most delicate fish we’ve had in a long time.

Solomos — A delicious char grilled Faroe Island salmon served with yellow beets and black lentils.

For dessert, we loved the Chocolate Kormos, a Cognac infused mosaic of chocolate and crunchy biscuit cubes served with ice cream. We also liked the Warm Galaktoboureko, the Greek traditional custard presented in a Cigar shaped crispy phyllo dough with a dollop of ice cream.

Lefkes serves lunch, dinner and brunch and also offers several tasting menus and lobster specials.
