The sun burns through the morning fog

The von Trapp story about their love and life in Austria and their escape from the Nazis inspired the 1959 Broadway play, The Sound of Music. In 1965 the Academy Award winning movie by the same name, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, catapulted the story to worldwide fame.

The von Trapp family toured the United States as the Trapp Family Singers and eventually settled in Stowe, Vermont. Their original 27-room family home/lodge was destroyed in a fire in 1980 and was replaced by the current Trapp Family Lodge.

When you visit the resort you’ll learn about the von Trapps and you’ll have a chance to meet one of the family members that manages the property today.

THE PROPERTY

The Austrian-style main lodge features 96 guestrooms ranging from studios to family suites, all decorated in a casual, rustic style.

The inn’s pubic areas are dotted with beautiful fresh floral arrangements from the resort’s greenhouses and fields. All windowsills and balconies are appointed with red and white flower boxes ‑ a postcard-perfect homage to the resort’s Austrian roots.

The walls in the rooms and corridors are lined with black and white photos depicting the von Trapps’ farm life amidst cows and tractors, next to official photos, albums and mementos of their successful entertainment career in the US and abroad. It feels like you are visiting a friend’s vacation estate.
