The 15th edition of Frieze New York 2026 concluded on May 17 after five days that brought together galleries, collectors, museum leaders, artists, and curators from around the world at The Shed. Held once again in Hudson Yards, the fair demonstrated why New York remains one of the most influential centers for contemporary art and culture.
Presented by Frieze in partnership with Deutsche Bank, Frieze New York 2026 welcomed more than 25,000 visitors from 75 countries and featured 68 galleries from 26 nations. The fair showcased a mix of established international dealers, emerging galleries, museum-quality presentations, ambitious installations, and strong institutional acquisitions.
International Galleries and Strong Sales
This year’s edition featured major returning exhibitors including Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace Gallery, David Zwirner, White Cube, Perrotin, and Thaddaeus Ropac, alongside influential New York galleries such as 303 Gallery, James Cohan, Tina Kim Gallery, and Miguel Abreu Gallery.
Sales ranged from emerging artist works priced around $4,000 to multimillion-dollar transactions. White Cube sold two works by El Anatsui for $2.2 million and $1.9 million, while Thaddaeus Ropac reported sales of works by Georg Baselitzand Robert Rauschenberg. Pace Gallery sold works from presentations by Maya Lin and Leo Villareal.
Focus Section Highlighted Emerging Voices
A major highlight of Frieze New York 2026 was the “Focus” section curated by Lumi Tan. Dedicated to galleries operating for 12 years or less, the section emphasized experimental practices and emerging artists from around the world.
The section included presentations by galleries from New York, London, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, São Paulo, and beyond. Stone Island continued its partnership supporting the program, reinforcing the fair’s emphasis on research-driven and emerging artistic practices.
Among the standout presentations was Seba Calfuqueo at W-Galería, which received the 2026 Focus Stand Prize. The artist’s work was also acquired by the Baltimore Museum of Art through the inaugural Sherman Family Foundation Acquisition Fund.
Museum Acquisitions and Institutional Presence
Frieze New York 2026 saw strong engagement from museums and institutions worldwide. The newly established Sherman Family Foundation Acquisition Fund supported acquisitions by the Brooklyn Museum and the Baltimore Museum of Art. Works by Bettina, Reika Takebayashi, Seba Calfuqueo, and Joanne Burke entered museum collections during the fair.
Representatives from major institutions attended the fair, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Brooklyn Museum, and Guggenheim Museum.
Frieze Week Energized New York’s Art Scene
Beyond the fair itself, Frieze Week transformed New York into a citywide celebration of art with exhibitions, gallery openings, and museum programming across the city. Major exhibitions included the Whitney Biennial 2026 at the Whitney Museum of American Art, exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, along with programming at Dia Art Foundation and the New Museum.
The fair also attracted notable attendees from the worlds of art, entertainment, fashion, and culture, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Banks, and Anderson Cooper.
With strong sales, museum acquisitions, international participation, and ambitious artistic presentations, Frieze New York 2026 once again demonstrated the fair’s importance within the global contemporary art market and reaffirmed New York’s position as a leading destination for cutting-edge art and culture.
