Macau welcomes Zaha Hadid Architects-designed Morpheus Hotel

Morpheus Hotel has opened in Macau, China.

Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the property is the centrepiece of the City of Dreams development.

An integrated entertainment location, owned by developers Melco Resorts & Entertainment, it will also feature dining and shopping locations as well as a casino.

According to the architects, the hotel is the first free-form high-rise exoskeleton in the world, with its structural geometric grid negating the need for internal walls or columns.

“Morpheus combines its optimal arrangement with structural integrity and sculptural form,” said Viviana Muscettola, Zaha Hadid Architects project director.

“The design is intriguing as it makes no reference to traditional architectural typologies.”

There are a total of 770 guest rooms, suites and sky villas in the hotel, along with a rooftop spa and pool.

Twelve glass elevators run through the Morpheus, giving guests panoramic views of the sculpted interiors and Macau spreading out below.
