Dining On Hoboken’s Waterfront

One of Hoboken’s main attractions is its location along the scenic Hudson River, offering spectacular views of Manhattan’s skyline.

A great way to enjoy the sweeping panoramas from the Statue of Liberty to the George Washington Bridge, is to dine at Halifax, a waterfront restaurant at the W Hotel. The restaurant is hip and modern, with floor-to-ceiling windows and an outdoor patio right on the Hudson River Walkway.

We first dined at the restaurant a couple of years ago and loved the ambiance and Chef Seadon Shouse’s coastal cuisine.

Chef Shouse proudly remains at the helm of the kitchen, offering a cuisine typical of the Northeastern seaboard from the Mid-Atlantic to Nova Scotia, and emphasizing locally sourced meat, fish, produce and dairy.

We recently revisited Halifax and enjoyed a wonderful dinner while taking in the magical day into night views of downtown Manhattan.

Our dinner started with a board of cured and smoked fish, a delicious sampling of maple smoked wild salmon, smoked rainbow trout, smoked mussels, smoked Pollock rillettes, marinated seafood salad and savory pickles.

For the main entrée we enjoyed the sea bream, a beautifully presented dish on a bed of Jonah crab rice, sea vegetables and mushroom broth. We also loved the Barnegat sea scallops served on einkorn ‘risotto’, with herb pesto, Swiss chard and pine nuts. For dessert, we savored the Hazelnut Chocolate Mousse with raspberry sorbet, hazelnut pralines and cocoa nibs. We paired the dinner with excellent wines from the “by the glass” menu.

Halifax is one of the top fine dining spots in the area, equally appreciated by locals and New Yorkers. It is a great place for a romantic dinner, drinks and brunch with friends, and family gatherings. The restaurant is also popular for its wine tasting dinners and late night Prix Fixe dining on Saturdays (From 9-11pm, 3 courses with wine for $45 pp.)

Treat yourself to a wonderful dining experience on Hoboken’s waterfront.
