Busan in South Korea has been named as the ‘Best Place to Visit in Asia for 2018’ by Lonely Planet, which was recently revealed in its 2018 Best in Asia list.
For this, the third annual Best in Asia list, Lonely Planet’s in-house Asia experts have described Busan as the No. 1 destination located in Asia because it offers an eclectic offering of activities to suit all travellers. Lonely Planet’s Best in Asia 2018 guide, which is available online, says Busan’s stunning confluence of scenery, culture and cuisine helped it steal the spotlight.
Best in Asia list aims to inspire travellers
Lonely Planet’s AsiaPacific media spokesperson Chris Zeiher says its experts combed through thousands of recommendations to pick the best destinations to visit over the next 12 months. Zeiher says the line-up is designed to inspire a multitude of travellers to visit some of the region’s heavy-hitting destinations.
The Lonely Planet’s Best In Asia 2018 guide to Busan says the South Korean city offers travellers everything from hill hikes to Buddhist temples, soothing hot springs and seafood feasts at the country’s largest fish market.
“From Nagasaki in Japan to Arugam Bay in Sri Lanka, Asia is such a vast and diverse continent for anyone dreaming of an escape,” says Zeiher.
Uzbekistan a jewel in Asia’s crown
The romance of Uzbekistan scored second place on Lonely Planet’s Best in Asia 2018 list, where it is described as a country that has long held sway over travellers’ imaginations.
“Change is afoot in a country that has remained largely closed off to the wider world due to tight control following the end of the Soviet era. In 2017, Uzbekistan took huge strides in opening up to tourism, announcing visa-free and e-visa schemes, new air routes and extensions to its shiny high-speed rail line, making access to its arsenal of jewelled architecture and ancient cities easier than ever”.
In third place in Lonely Planet’s The Best in Asia 2018 guide is Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, a supercity the travel media company says “somehow keeps getting cooler”.
