NYC Ballet 22-23 Season at Lincoln Center

The 22-23 Fall Season features with programs centered on masterworks from Founding Choreographers George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins along with contemporary favorites from Justin Peck and Alexei Ratmansky. The Company then celebrates the momentous 10th anniversary of the Fall Fashion Gala, on September 28 which will include world premieres from Gianna Reisen and Kyle Abraham as well as the onstage premiere of Peck’s Solo, originally choreographed for and last seen on the virtual 2021 Spring Gala. Reprising the 2022 Stravinsky Festival, an all-Stravinsky program extends the Company’s homage to the music icon with four ballets set to the legendary composer’s work, amongst performances pairing Balanchine’s striking Episodes and his sweeping Vienna Waltzes.

During the holiday period, November 25-December 31, the NYCB mounts the magical George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker®. The beloved show features 90 dancers, 62 musicians, 40 stagehands, and more than 125 children from the School of American Ballet in two alternating casts. A perennial favorite.

The winter program introduces the premiere of Resident Choreographer Justin Peck’s first full-evening work, set to music by American composer Aaron Copland and created in collaboration with painter and sculptor Jeffrey Gibson. Jerome Robbins’ cherished suite of dances from the Broadway hit West Side Story makes its return to the stage along with the revival of his rarely-seen dance for two women, Rondo. On a program featuring contemporary dancemakers, choreographer and A.I.M by Kyle Abraham dancer Keerati Jinakunwiphat creates her first piece for the Company, performed alongside Alexei Ratmansky’s Winter 2020 premiere Voices. The winter engagement closes with a two-week run of one of the Company’s largest productions, The Sleeping Beauty.

Spring welcomes three unique Masters at Work programs focused on the founding choreographers, the first, featuring music by German composers, includes the return of Jerome Robbins’ Brandenburg, last seen in 2008 and set to selections from Bach’s ever-popular concertos. World premieres from Canadian choreographer Alysa Pires, who makes her NYCB choreographic debut, and former NYCB Resident Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon join current NYCB Resident Choreographer Justin Peck’s audience favorite sneaker ballet The Times Are Racing for the 2023 Spring Gala and subsequent performances of the 21st Century Choreography II program. Encores of Peck’s newest work, his first full-evening creation, also take the stage this spring. Finally, classical meets contemporary as Balanchine’s one-act adaptation of Swan Lake meets Alexei Ratmansky’s abstract embodiment of Wassily Kandinsky’s watercolors, Pictures at an Exhibition.
