The NYC Big Apple Circus Featured “Hometown Playground” 2024-2025

The Big Apple Circus was back Thru January 5 celebrating our vibrant city with an all-new show, “Hometown Playground,” at Lincoln Center.

Audiences were amazed by high-flying acrobats, death-defying stunts, comedic clowns, and charming canines that delighted both kids and parents alike. It was a fun show smoothly flowing from one great act to act to another.

Featured Acts Included:

  • Human Fountains:
    As seen on America’s Got Talent, this hilarious act featured a unique spin on NYC’s iconic fountains. Performers created whimsical water-spouting routines, mixing humor and artistry; and yes, he splash zone was real.
  • Slack Wire:
    Spectators enjoyed the incredible balance and strength of Mihret Mekonnen, who dazzled audiences with gravity-defying stunts on the slack wire. His performance is a blend of agility and poise.
  • The Flying Poemas:
    The world-renowned Flying Poemas, a trapeze act that showcased breathtaking aerial maneuvers and seamless acrobatics. This talented troupe executed with precision the legendary triple somersault .
  • Wheel of Destiny:
    Anatoly Brazzan performed heart-stopping thrills as he fearlessly balanced on the Giant Wheel of Destiny. His act combined high-speed spinning with daring acrobatics.
  • Upside Down Walker:
    Audiences enjoyed the extraordinary talents of Alex Petrov, a third-generation Bulgarian circus performer who defied gravity in his upside-down routine. His elegant movements left spectators questioning their own orientation.
  • Zsilak Trio Jugglers:
    From Budapest, this legendary family of jugglers delivered an electrifying performance filled with synchronized tricks and stunning coordination.
  • Aerial Orb:
    Sofia Petrov enchanted audiences with her aerial artistry, performing stunning flips and spins high above the crowd.
  • Contortionist:
    For the first time in America, Kalle Pikkuharju, a Finnish contortionist, astounded with his incredible flexibility and breathtaking array of movements.
  • Comedy Pick Pocket:
    Hailing from Sweden, Michael Halvarson took the art of pickpocketing to new heights with a delightful blend of comedy and skill.
  • Russian Swing:
    Adrenaline-pumping thrills as a daring team launched into the air from a colossal swing, showcasing breathtaking aerial stunts.

Community Engagement

This season, the Big Apple Circus continued its legacy of giving back by donating tickets to local nonprofits, ensuring hundreds of children and families can enjoy the circus experience at no cost. Daytime programming for local schools was also available at an accessible price point.
