New York City Ballet 2025 Spring Season: Legacy and Innovation

The New York City Ballet (NYCB) returns to Lincoln Center this spring with a dynamic six-week season running from April 22 to June 1, 2025, at the David H. Koch Theater. Curated by Associate Artistic Director Wendy Whelan, with Artistic Director Jonathan Stafford and Resident Choreographer Justin Peck, this season blends time-honored classics and premieres—perfect for ballet aficionados and newcomers alike.

Season Highlights

Stage Premiere: When We Fell by Kyle Abraham – May 16
Don’t miss the long-awaited stage debut of When We Fell, choreographed by MacArthur Fellow Kyle Abraham. Originally created as a film in 2021, this contemplative work will be performed live for the first time, featuring music by Morton Feldman, Jason Moran, and Nico Muhly.

Spring Gala – Vienna Waltzes – May 8
The annual Spring Gala features George Balanchine’s Vienna Waltzes, a lavish ballet for nearly 60 dancers set to music by Johann Strauss II, Franz Lehár, and Richard Strauss. This monumental work is exclusive to NYCB and rarely performed.
The gala evening begins with a 5:30pm cocktail reception, followed by a 7:00pm performance and a black-tie dinner and dancing on the Promenade.

50th Anniversary: Ravel Festival – Begins May 14
Celebrate the golden anniversary of NYCB’s original 1975 Ravel Festival with a program of works by George Balanchine and Jerome Robbins set to Maurice Ravel’s music. Highlights include La Valse, Pavane, Sonatine, Errante, and Robbins’ In G Major.
Performances on May 14, 15, 18, 20, 22, and 24.

Farewell to Principal Dancer Andrew Veyette – May 25
On Sunday, May 25, NYCB honors the remarkable 25-year career of Principal Dancer Andrew Veyette. His farewell program includes Glass Pieces, Chiaroscuro, and Stars and Stripes.

Audience-Friendly Programs

Sensory-Friendly Performance – May 18 at 11am
A specially adapted performance of Ballo della Regina, Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux, and Scotch Symphony for audiences with sensory sensitivities, including autism.

Inside NYCB – May 12 at 6:30pm
Hosted by Principal Dancer Tiler Peck, this one-hour onstage program offers a look at iconic ballerina roles like La Valseand Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux.

Family Saturdays – May 31 at 11:00am
Join Principal Dancer Megan Fairchild for an interactive program for ages 5+, themed “The ABC’s of NYCB.” A fun and educational introduction to ballet.

Workshops and Community Engagement

Interactive Movement Workshops take place throughout the season, including Children’s Workshops, Ballet Essentials for teens and adults, and access programs for children with disabilities and autism.

Final Week: A Midsummer Night’s Dream – May 27 to June 1

The season concludes with seven performances of Balanchine’s evening-length A Midsummer Night’s Dream, featuring more than 80 dancers and students from the School of American Ballet.
