Many New Yorkers welcomed 2017 with Salute to Vienna New Year’s Concert, at Lincoln Center. The program featured Strauss waltzes and sweeping melodies from Die Fledermaus and Merry Widow, performed by the Strauss Symphony of Canada. A cast of acclaimed European singers, as well as ballet and ballroom dancers enhanced the experience. The beloved encores featured the Blue Danube Waltz and the Radetzky March. .
This year’s cast included the Strauss Symphony of America; Imre Kollár, conductor (Budapest); Katarzyna Dondalska, soprano (Berlin–Warsaw); Zoltán Nyári, tenor (Budapest); dancers from National Ballet of Hungary and International Champion Ballroom Dancers.
Salute to Vienna celebrates more than 20 years of New Year’s concerts, rounding off the holiday season with entertaining, light-hearted performances in 24 North American cities this year. More than 40,000 concert-goers attended between December 29 and January 3.
