MSC’s newest ship, MSC Seaside, makes a splashy Miami debut

We were recently invited to the naming ceremony and inaugural sail of the stunning megaship MSC Seaside, the newest addition to the award-winning fleet of MSC Cruises.

THE NAMING CEREMONY

The MSC Seaside Naming Ceremony took place in the Port of Miami, the ship’s new home. Emceed by TV personality Mario Lopez, the program featured show-stopping performances by world-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli backed by a Haitian children’s chorus, and superstar Ricky Martin who electrified the audience with his high voltage show. Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins and MSC Cruises senior executives addressed the large crowd. Legendary actress Sophia Loren, the Godmother of all MSC leisure ships, cut the inaugural ribbon. Fireworks concluded the star-studded ceremony.

THE SHIP

Dubbed as “The ship that follows the sun,” MSC Seaside was designed for warm weather sailing. Inspired by the easy-going South Beach lifestyle, the ship has large pools, sun-tanning decks, a solarium with retractable roof, a long waterfront boardwalk for promenades, glass-floored catwalks and open-air restaurants. The back part of the ship resembles the facade of a Miami Beach oceanfront condo.

MSC Seaside’s interior design is dazzling. The hub of the ship is a soaring atrium with translucent circular staircases embedded with thousands of glittering crystals. Every sitting area and every corner of the ship’s public spaces are sleek and contemporary, as if they came straight from the pages of Italian architectural magazines.
